loverr wrote: how much are their pans? Firstly, "loverr ", whose pans are you referring to, and what sort of pan are you after? There are many to chose from, and come in different sizes. Allgoods in Launceston used to sell the big 21 inch, and 12 inch steel pans as well as some of the very early model plastic ones when they had the army and camping disposal section in the store, but not sure if they still sell them. A few places to try are www.minersden.com.au or www.reedsprospectingsupplies.com.au or www.goannadetectors.com.au or www.coiltek.com.au just to name a few sites to look at. There is also a place in Hobart that sells detectors, but not sure about pans. Try one of the above and ask about the cost of delivery as well. This might help you decide on the one you want. I have 3-4 pans, all different, but mostly use the old 21 inch steel pan. Easier to use for me. Cheers, Cashman.

i would like to try the green or blue coloured ones to see the difference in the gold showing up (hopefully) what is the hole sizes usually fopr a seive ? i would like to make my own. G'day riverrat, The green pans are made by Garrett, (I have 2, both different) not sure about the blue ones, and there are also black plastic pans, which I have one of. Can't remember who makes them, will have to dig it out of the bowels of my shed and will let you know later. The sieves are ranged in size from 1/2", 3/8", and 1/4", sized mesh and for smaller sizing, go into Coles and buy a big kitchen sieve with small mesh for a couple of dollars to sieve down to fines. The trio of sieves come as a set from detecting places for under $50.00 a set. They are made of aluminium with stainless steel mesh that inhibits rusting. Worth every cent as they are good Quality, or you can purchase them separately. Or if you want, see if you can get hold of a builders sieve which is much bigger and has fine mesh for sieving Builders Lime. Not sure of the cost of these, as I have never had a need to purchase one, even though I used to work in the building trade. What size pans do you have, and are they Steel? If they are steel and you don't like them, let me know, and maybe we can do some kind of a deal, providing they are still in good condition. The steel pans need to be "cooked" to get rid of oil residue before use, otherwise you will lose all your fine gold as it will slide out of the pan whilst doing the deed, and very little will be retained in the riffle. Well, hope you got some reasonable info from the above, cobber, and wish you luck in your endeavours, Cheers, Cashman.
