Yep got to do the right thing, I've renew my Tassie one for quite a few years now, also have a WA one (they last for lifetime) and a Vic one for the trip we had this year. Now I have to start looking into permission to go onto mining leases here in Tassie, red tape... it goes on and on and on.... Cheers Coral

Had a few Tassie licences,(last one cost $13.60, back on 20/04/2011, but have not purchased this year's one yet, as they are renewed annually. In W.A. it cost me about $20 for life, (Only need to register once). In Victoria my last one cost $25 plus $2.50 gst - total $27.50 for 2 years. Tassie Licences are available from Service Tasmania offices. Cashman.

the licence will get posted to you. You need to carry it on your person when prospecting. I recommend laminating it as its not printed on quality paper. The fees doubled this year.
It offers you at the very least security and the opportunity to dig up stuff in Tassie, and take it home.

Hi Roger, I emailed MRT a while ago asking how to get a licence. This was the reply: Hi Jace, If you have a look on our website (www.mrt.tas.gov.au) and go to “Exploration and Mining” and “Fossicking” you will see a few areas that you are able to fossick for free. If you download the PDF file “Fossicking Areas in Tasmania” you will see in some more detail the areas you are able to fossick for free. Anything outside of these areas you are required to purchase a Prospecting Licence. If you have a look on our website (www.mrt.tas.gov.au) under “Exploration and Mining” and “Prospecting” you will see the conditions relating to a Prospecting Licence. To obtain a Prospecting Licence you are required to complete an ‘Application for a Prospecting Licence’ form which is available on our website under “Publications” – “Tenement Forms” – Form No P1. The form needs to be forwarded to Mineral Resources Tasmania (MRT), PO Box 56, Rosny Park 7018 with the relevant fee of $28.00 (per person). Once received by MRT, the licence will be issued and posted back out. Alternatively, you may pay for the application at any Service Tasmania shop and then forward the application and receipt to MRT for the issues of the licence. If you have any further questions please reply to my email or give me a call on (03) 6233 8329. Kind regards, Kayla Beeson[/b]
So, no, seems you cannot get online and get one. I found the easiest thing to do was to print the form, fill it in, take it to Service Tas and pay the $28. They then sent the form for me using the internal government mail service and I received my licence a little over a week later.
Cheers Roger. All the best, Jace.

In W.A. it cost me about $20 for life, (Only need to register once). Cashman. Hi guys and gals, I was just on the DMPWA website and noticed inflation is upon those of us whom foray into the red dust of WA's nether regions. If you haven't already got a Western Australian Miner's Right, then I must inform you that it has increased in price from $20.00 a few years back, to $ 25.00, currently. For those of you whom may want to partake of a trip across there to do some prospecting, but will be unable to do so for a few more years, then may I suggest that it may be a good idea to get in and purchase your WA Miner's Right to save yourself a few dollars, as one never knows if, or more likely "when" the cost of this will increase again in the future, or by how much. As it (The Miner's Right) is "For Life", then it is probably a good idea to get it while it is cheap. Just a passing thought. Cheers, Cashman.
