Hi all
i'm looking to detect an area around Beaconsfied this Monday and if encouraging enough Tuesday too. I can pick up anyone in Devonport across to Frankford or even drive though Launceston if anyone needs a lift that way. or if anyone just wants to meet up their at their leisure would be great too. i want to hit it at dawn or there abouts and return at 3-4 so early start. straight drive on maintained roads.. not too hard uphill. open ground, close to the shop.. And, an important part of Tasmanian Gold history and lore, so even better.
Anyway, Its an old alluvial working, coarse gold, next door to the richest gold mine in Tasmania. Not under any tenement and or restrictions. The area was relinquished in 2001, when the joint venture exploration partner went broke sort of. Not they didnt find enough, they didnt spend enough and lost the rights
Should be easy to swing a detector too in some open areas from maps "Street View". It has been worked in the past as both alluvial and reef. i cant find any records of nugget size. but bound to be a nugget or specimen or 2 left for us left. only says "Coarse Gold"
Should even be enough water to do some panning to check. The Tasmania mine itself had more gold than all the other East coast mines put together, and most of the West, and the mine shuts down in a month, so perfect timing.

Hello Starry. that would be great. i have Monday and Tuesday off. im hoping to get permission from the mine itself tomorrow as well. Already contacted, and seems to be a go'er. Its the very last week the Beaconsfield "Tasmania mine" will be open. so its a hugely historical and important week from Tasmanian gold mining perspective and a chance for us to be the last to ever prospect it. not the last ever on it of course. but the last in the mines history, we will be. I do a bit of work for an exploration company already on the West coast so have.. a "Miner: foot in the door.. lol have a great night and i hope your wife is okay tomorrow too. night Phillip

Hello Mike i didnt see your post above first sorry. That would be awesome. and, your really close too. and more than welcome, I found a fantastic place to detect on i think. one Tasmanian government geologist said it had an "staggering" amount of gold on the field. its been prospected heavily and professionally in the past and hydrosliuced etc, so turned upside down a bit. But predominately its company's looking for another Tasmania mine. Its is part of the same zone though. i have all modern results and locations etc. so can go roughly straight to the hot spot. I just hope the nuggets have some size to them. Im only going on modern drill logs and historical records. Its surface stuff and lots and lots of it. The Tasmania mine is the richest Gold mine in our state my miles and miles. 30+ton of gold. but fine. 2mm down, this area has/had all the nuggety stuff in unbelievably rich pockets. so way better for a detector. my home number is (03) 64 911 841 or goo.gl/maps/8Yy7im going to start down the Southern end of Salisbury Hill Road. the main workings in that area are on the spur on the S/E side, Victoria mine, Sailisbury Mine etc. The Talus is gold bearing, but patchy apparently. i need to hang off till after 9am for the approval process etc from the mine to hit the below area. so if you want to meet up at say 10 their and if i miss you then, i will come back down around 12 and 2pm etc. and may move during the day if poor. Another area over the back of beaconsfield has Osmiridium! its sells for 4 times more than gold and i really want some. um, Brandys Creek is worth a look too i think. as is the gorge that cuts the ridge. and another area un touched practically. amazing! Night Phillip

hi all Had a wonderful day with Mike. Top Fellow. He saved my bacon with fresh batteries and i managed to misplace my gps and come home empty, after a late start. But, had a great day. Its very easy going with firm to soft soils to dig and not too much trash. . i Just got permission for the club to go over the area from Beaconsfield Mine itself, Peter Hill. His only condition was not to go on private property. and i found a remnant pocket of flora in Tassie i have never seen before very simular to the Great Dividing Range in QLD on the spur to the east. black boys etc. Mike got some photos of the powerline adit. And, this is a comprehensive soil and rock chip sampling of the area for anyone interested. www.mrt.tas.gov.au/webdoc/servlets/com.geometryit.docviewer.DocViewerProxyServlet?DOC=tasxplor/ecw/00_4486its the second largest gold deposit in beaconsfield. "apparently"

Thanks Cashman, We didnt have any joy at all with the detectors, but the small creek on the southern end of Salisbury hill next to the mines has good fine gold. Turn off to Flowery gully and first on the left past the Boral Batching plant. The ridge is covered with old collapsing shafts, adits, trenches and potholes and you need to be switched on 100% of the time. Some shafts on the southern end are covered with thin and rotten tree saplings, 4" at most and leaf litter. Very dangerous. i need to get my mother in law a metal detector for her birthday and a bus ticket to beaconsfield.
