To add to your above post, ' Ironstone, laterite, greenstone, and granite along with mica schist ' are a few other elements, that when combined with quartz, sandstone, and shales' should be a fairly good indicator that gold " MAY " be present.
However, as we now know, that this is not always the case, no matter how much at times we desire this to be true. When all the indicators are present, and we expect a good day, it almost breaks one's heart to not even find the smallest grain of gold. This is the time when we can say " It's been a bad day."
