G'day everyone,
A couple of years ago whilst in WA, I happened to meet up with a fella whose name was Gerd. He told me he was from Austria and carried out Gold Mining back over there. To cut a long story short, Gerd and his mate made some kind of deal with some rock crushing and gravel companies, which involved fitting filters to the screens in the crushing and grading areas of the plants, and every month or so, they would go in over the weekend and clean these screens out at nil cost to the company. This meant the crushing plants were never stopped during the week for maintenance or cleaning as gerd and his mate had done it for "free" monthly on the weekend. What the gravel company did not know, was that Gerd and his mate were making a small fortune from the tiny particles of gold that they were cleaning out of the screens, that they themselves fitted. (Gerd and his mate.)
This story used to be on Gerd's website along with all the pictures he took of the cleaning process, at a number of Gravel and ore companies, and included photos of the fine gold trapped in the mesh. To look at this silt/sand, you would never envisage that it contained many tens of ounces of gold, until you saw the photos of the separation process and then the panning off of the smaller black sands.
Now Gerd has many, many, photos on the website, of his adventures in WA including videos of large 6 ounce nuggets being dug up by others. He even has a photo on there of another of my mates', Wally, whom also went detecting with Gerd. For those whom may be interested, I feel it is only fair to warn you, that the comments and website are written in German, but the video language is "absolutely in Australian English" as I don't think they can swear that bad in German. The website is : www.goldminer.at ,(notice it is not .com.at, but straight .at) . It has stuff from Dredges to panning to detecting as well as equipment sales etc. and lots of gold photos. Many video links to utube. Worth a browse, Cheers Cashman.
