Thanks Starry, I have ended up going up after coins by default as there isnt much gold in East Devonport. Have about $30 in spendables so far but have a fair way to go as I am trying to save up for a pinpointer. Also have 4 x 1 shillings, 1 x 1 halfpenny a few kanga pennies and a 1881 English penny that my grandson found for me in my own yard. I use a BH Tracker IV which is doing a great job even on the beach. In the relics department have found a 1919-1926 RSL badge with the service number on the back. Have tracked the owner who died in the early 60s but not his rels yet. When I do will see if they would like to have it. Also found a "sad" iron. It is one of those old cast iron Irons that you sat on the wood stove to heat up. The difference with this one is that it is only about 100mm long. Various other bits and pieces have come my way but they are the best so far. Ok that is enough beating my own drum. Lets hear how others have gone.

I've found about $30 in clad and a copper angligin church medal on the west side of devonport using minelab e-trac, still learning my way around the detector but very happy with it, have a sunray x1 probe in line with the coil which i use a lot as i seem to dig small craters (not to good pipointing as yet).

I now have an Aquaprobe Pin Pointer. Works on a too bright LED and vibration only. Is great and really speeds up my finding of the targets. There are quite a few detectorists around this neck of the woods Grantmor2000. Let me know when you can go out via Email rbh_fly@hotmail.com and we will organise something. Since my last post have finally cracked the 3p and 6p now only the florin to go to complete the lower set of predecs...wont hold my breath for gold sovereigns and half sovereigns. Also found an old Brownies elf badge. OK will put the drum away again...till next time.

I just ordered a fairly low entry level detector which was posted tuesday so should be here soon its a gold snoop pro and I'm hoping to hit the beach and some old parks very soon. G'day riverrat, Got yourself a good allround cheap detector there. They are good for relic hunting as well as the odd nugget or two up to between 6-8 inches in depth. They were commissioned and made especially for Jack Lange, of Jack Lange Detectors, whom had a detector shop in Greta, NSW, which is now Goanna Detectors and is now owned by Bob. Jack moved up to Queensland, partly due to the better weather, and more to do with the fact that the Palmer River and Castlemaine Goldfields weren't so far away and he had much less distance to travel to get to them. Hope you do well with it and keep me informed as to how you find its usability once you get the hang of it. Just remember, like all things, they take time to get used to and above all "patience". Good Luck.... Cheers, Cashman.
