Howdy guys. Same here Tristan, think it was great to meet everyone and felt that Starry has done a great job of getting it all together. Did you think that maybe some other people would be interested to come on Saturday to Moina? Didn't think to ask. Am happy to take my vehicle if a few interested. See what happens on post. Will spend the rest of the week battling with the gold dust in the bowls.Oh and making some beer as well Cheers Daveo

Hi Coral Think trip involves visit to a quarry type area that Tristan has checked out so maybe involve detector and digging. I am just happy to go on outing to prospect! We are meeting at Forth pub carpark at 10.00am on Saturday and am sure you are welcome if this appeals. If tristan comes online he could elaborate. Will get to look at Moina area for future trips there. Am sure there is a lot more to offer there. Cheers Daveo

i have a hard copy of the 1919 (McIntosh Reid) Geological report on Moina, Bell mountain, Dolcoath, Davenport and Lea river show and Shepard Murphy bismuth mine. If anyone wants to read it or take it up. Its easy to read and accurate. I also have a map of the original leases in Bell Creek and size of nuggets found and locations of in the area Just the link to mrt's online copy tinyurl.com/7bhrgggi have to work Saturday and Sunday so cant go. But as you drive to the lake in Old Moina. on the left you should see some altered limestone sticking out in a paddock on the left approx 1km from the lake bridge. Its private land. and i dont know the new owners, but would be worth asking permission. the little rill (small watercourse) is full of fine gold. be worth shooting a coil over. or panning.. The other choice areas for Au in the Moina area are the Lea river, Stormont mine, Narrawa Creek, Bell Creek, Five mile rise (daisy dell) across lake Cethana from Lorinna and the Wilmot River. hope you all have a safe and successful weekend. Kindest regards Phillip

Update on trip to Moina on Saturday 16th of June. Didn't get your post Coral so turned up at Forth pub.Tristan arrived and we made a collective decision to go despite rain. Had a great day. Hunted in the rain and despite all the inconvenience of the weather managed to get about a few places up there. Tristans knowledge of the area was a great help. Tried various locations with differing potential. From detecting fields of mineralised material to old mine sites with tailing heaps and addits Was a great reconaissance trip but the detectors only turned up some pre used debris. Took some samples from sludge area which needs more classifying and sorting Will bring to meeting to get some pro advice. Would like to return to this area in the dry to further explore. Great day, was good to be prospecting!Studied maps and gps afterwards to review and this served to wet the appetite for more searching here. Thanks for the leasehold maps Mick. gave us an idea where we shouldn't be.Can't wait for the next trip!

I'm going up once the rains stops. I guess If you dont have a detector and just want to get a colour easily in Moina. Just need a knife or scraper and pan. the other side of the dam, The dirt in the crevices there is always fine wire gold. It floats down from the lea River and refills every time the dam spills. Not a lot, just a few colours. Or in the Wilmot river just past and on the big bend 2km in is "crevice city" with awesome fine gold in some pockets. All the Nuggety stuff in Bell Mountain came from Betts Claim and is off limits. Kemp's reward is typically in Poverty Creek. 2 chains distant. Interestingly, on the other side of the lake past the gate, when the lake is down you can see a dark patch in the basalt about half way down the lake. Its gossan and carries gold. The lake denuded the hill and now you can see the bugger. So the old guys missed that one. Only its fully on HEC land "lucky i didnt pan it" too much.. "No dams", no dams.. noooo. Their are some huge opportunities in the area if you look away from gold too. Beryllium, Corundum, Wolfram, Flourite, silver and copper etc. The largest deposit in the world of Flourite for example, is un-touched and in Moina.
